How to plan the perfect proposal

How to plan the perfect proposal

Often, my clients have various questions and are often looking for guidance when it comes to proposals. For this very reason, I have decided to outline a step by step guideline on how to make sure your proposal is as smooth as possible.

  • Location – Public or Private?

The very first step is determining  whether you want your proposal to be in a public or private setting. Understand the comfort level of your partner and what they would be interested in. If they are shy, they mend to lean towards a private, intimate setting. If they prefer something more grand and wouldn’t mind the extra eyes – then public areas work as well. Generally – settings that are more private tend to require a permit. For a list of great possible locations in the Toronto area – check out my other blog post here (link to other blog)

  • Vendors – Décor, Photography, Videography

The next step would be determining which vendors you would like to work with. Do you want to add décor such as Marry Me letters or maybe a big red heart? Or would you prefer something more private? Do you want your moments captured by a photographer, and do you potentially want videography as well?

  • Execution

On the day of, keeping the proposal a surprise can sometimes be difficult. Something that can potentially help to keep the proposal a surprise and or to help execute is to have a close friend or family member assist. They can help coordinate timings, come up with the settings, and leviate some weight off your shoulders. Additionally, they can bring the soon to be fiancée to the location. Optional add-ons could also be adding a blindfold!

The biggest and most common issue I’ve seen is when the fiancée is not actually prepared to be proposed to. This means, she had wished she had someone tell her to get her nails done, or wear make up, maybe better clothing and shoes!

  • Enjoy the moment!!

With the stress of planning – often people forget that this is supposed to be a memorable and happy occasion. Drop the stress and leave it to your vendors to make sure everything goes smoothly. As someone with hundreds of proposals done to date, I assure you the most important step is to make sure you have fun and enjoy your moment.
